EPAD

I am unable to log in to ePad, what should I do?

What is required of me (PEd) in terms of the portfolio?

The clinical skills demonstrated on placement all need to be observed and ticked at a minimum of Dependent (D) in year 1, Minimal Supervision (MS) in year 2, and Safe and Effective (SE) in year 3. See table below.

When do I carry out a formative assessment?

  • Formative assessments can be done to give feedback/monitor development, but a summative with minimal supervision is required to pass the module. Formative assessments should be carried out at the midpoint of each placement. There is scope for more of these to be added if you feel the student needs them.
  • The summative assessment is the sign-off at the end of each year by the final PEd of the year.

Do I need to fill anything in for the HCPC standards?

  • Any evidence the student is using can be “mapped”; the summative ones are done automatically. The student should be selecting which they feel are appropriate and then asking you to confirm you agree.

How many placements do the student have?

  • Year 1 – 2 blocks of 7-week ambulance placements; a midpoint review will be done after the first block, and a summative/endpoint will be done at the end of the 2nd block.
  • Year 2 – 2 blocks of 7-week ambulance placements; a midpoint review will be done after the first block, and a summative/endpoint at the end of the 2nd block.
  • Year 3 – 1 block of 7-week ambulance placement, 1 block of 7 weeks of non-ambulance placements.

Will my student need a personal development plan?

  • Having moved to education 2030 block delivery, there are only 2 blocks in a year, and students will all develop at different paces in various areas. Hence, we ask them to be constructive from day one with a personal development plan, and we added the midpoint review to ensure students are on track.

Do I need to conduct a midpoint placement review?

  • Yes, a midpoint placement review is essential. It provides a formal opportunity to check the student’s progress against their pre-placement development plan, assess how they are working toward their required competencies, and identify any areas where additional support or focus may be needed.
  • It also gives the student structured feedback at a key stage of their learning, helping them reflect on what they have achieved so far and what they still need to work on. This ensures they remain on track to meet both their personal learning outcomes and the sign-off requirements by the end of the placement.

What do I do if the student is not on track to achieve their personal development plan and/or meet learning outcomes of placement?

  • If your student is not on track to achieve their personal development plan and required learning outcomes for the placement, the student must arrange a midpoint placement review with your PEd and academic tutor using the booking system. This meeting will focus on progress, address any concerns, and agree on an action plan to help the student meet the placement requirements.
