Thank you very much for all your support with our student placements this year.
Please find below the dates for the De Montfort SLT Practice Educator training for the Autumn 2017 to 2018. All clinicians taking De Montfort students on placement are very welcome to attend. Workshops will take place at the university on the city site. ‘In house training can be arranged, please contact njohnson@dmu.ac.uk for information.
The HCPC require all educators offering an SLT student placement to undertake both initial educator training and update their skills. This may be at DMU or an alternative university. Educators must be two years post qualification to lead a placement although they may participate in a placement after one year post qualification.

PRACTICE EDUCATOR TRAINING

Please find below the dates for the De Montfort Placement Educator training for the Autumn 2017/2018. All clinicians taking De Montfort students on placement are very welcome to attend. Workshops will take place at the university on the city site. I am also willing to visit services if in-service training is required.
Second year Educators Day/ Tuesday 12th September 9.15 a.m to 12.30 p.m
This half day course is specifically designed for clinicians taking DMU second year students for their first placement experience. The course will outline the expectations of students and educators, and look in detail at suggested activities and the assessment for this placement.
New Educators Day/ Wednesday 13th September – 9.30 a.m to 4 p.m
A day aimed at placement educators new to student supervision and who are about to supervise a student on placement, or participate in a student placement for the first time. This may also be of interest to clinicians who have supervised students from other universities but who are taking De Montfort student for the first time. Topics covered will introduce the SLT De Montfort placement programme, levels of student learning, an introduction to giving feedback to students, planning for your student, supporting clinical reasoning and assessment protocols.
Fourth Year Educators Day /Thursday 14th September 9.15 a.m to 12.30 p.m
This half day course is specifically designed for educators taking final years students for their final placement experience. The course will outline the expectations of students and educators, and look in detail at levels of responsibility, activities and the assessment for this placement.
Third year Block Workshop / Thursday 7th December 9.30 a.m to 4.00 p.m
A workshop for clinicians taking students for their third year block placement. This is offered as either a whole or a half day. Topics covered can be adapted to course participant needs but will cover the placement aims and objectives, levels of responsibility, assessment, clinical reasoning and feedback. As a general guide the morning will cover the administrative aspects of the placement and the afternoon supervision, feedback and assessment, However this can be adapted for the course participants.
