Welcome to the support site for Registered Optometrists working with Master of Optometry students at De Montfort University.
As an Optometry team, we would like to sincerely thank you for the support, guidance, and supervision you provide to our students throughout their placements. Your contribution plays an important role in helping them develop into confident and capable professionals.
This site has been created to provide useful information and resources to support you in your role as a placement supervisor. Please note that these resources may be updated periodically. Where any significant changes are made, we will communicate these directly to you.
The resources available here should be viewed alongside the validated programme and module specifications. Please be aware that some documents may still be subject to validation and amendment.
If you are new to supporting students, we recommend speaking with your practice manager in the first instance about attending one of the introduction events delivered by DMU academic staff at the university. These sessions provide an overview of:
- the expectations of supervisors,
- the expectations of students, and
- guidance on completing placement documentation.
They are also a great opportunity to meet other supervisors and members of the DMU Optometry team.
The Practice Placement Handbook is another useful resource for both clinical staff and students on placement. It includes important information on placement expectations, attendance requirements, uniform policy, and other key guidance related to clinical placements
